DEEP CONDITIONING....... IT'S A MUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DEEP CONDITION OR NOT!!!!
In my honest opinion, I think everyone should deep condition. How often is a different story. When I was on my healthy hair journey from a bad relaxer service, I deep conditioned twice, sometimes even three times a week. I even slept in my conditioner. After doing some research and referring back to my cosmetology textbook, I realized that sleeping in my conditioner, isn't beneficial. Your hair can only absorb so much product. Once the hair strand is full of product, then it can not absorb anymore. The excess product will sit on top of the hair. Once you rinse the hair, the excess product will go down the drain. That is wasting product. I don't know about you all, but I do not like wasting my hard earned dolla dolla bills, coins, papers. Let's face it, I don't like to waste my money. So, needless to say, I stopped sleeping in my conditioner because I was wasting my money and my deep conditioner and I can't do that.
Deep conditioning is necessary. The reason being is that your hair needs it. Your hair is being manipulated on a constant basis. Whether you comb, brush, heat style or just put your hands in your hair. Your hair needs moisture and it needs protein. It needs an even balance of each item. If you use too much of one, then you hair can become damaged. It depends how damaged your hair and how much moisture or protein is used. If you use to much moisture, your hair will be mushy and it will stretch a lot and then snap. If it has too much protein, then it will be hard and brittle feeling and will break also.
Depending on how damaged your hair is will determine how often you deep condition. I recommend the minimum amount of deep conditioning is twice a month. That is is your hair isn't that damaged. I recommend going to a stylist and have them assess your hair. Most stylist offer free hair consultation. Some stylist do charge for them and nothing is wrong with that, but get someone that can really look at your hair and assess what your hair really needs. Some stylist will also recommend products to use within that consultation.
I'm going to list my favorite deep conditioners below. I don't have that many, so the list won't be too long.
Favorite Deep Conditioners
- Silicon Mix
- Redken Heavy Cream
- ORS Replenishing Conditioner
- Moroccan Oil Restorative Hair Mask
- Redken Extreme Reno Rescue Strength Builder Conditioner
- It's A 10 Miracle Hair Mask
The above listed deep conditioners are some of my favorites, especially the silicon mix and the ORS Replenishing Conditioner. I do have an honorable mention, which is Moisturefuse by Mizani. It is really good too. I don't use it often, but I like it also. These are just some of my favorite conditioners. Don't get me wrong. I like other ones too, but these are the ones that I always seem to repurchase when needed.
I deep condition under a heated hood dryer with a plastic cap or just a plastic cap while I'm in the shower. Even those short deep conditions in the shower, helps my hair out. If time permits, I try to sit under the dryer and get a full 15-20 minutes of deep conditioning in. It is nice and sometimes relaxing. My hair feels really nice afterwards too. Your hair will thank you for deep conditioning it too.
What are your favorite deep conditioners? I would love to know. Please leave a comment below and let me know what conditioners you like.
