Protein... It Is Necessary!

Yes!  It is Necessary!!!!!!!

Many people shy away from protein.  I understand why.  I have seen what too much protein can do to a person's hair; however, you need protein.  Not enough protein can cause you breakage too.  Your hair can feel like mush, literally.  Your hair will not feel good or it will feel too soft.  It's not a good feeling and then the damage starts because your hair is too stretchy.  However, too much protein can cause your hair to be too strong.  Now, what do I mean by too strong?  Protein helps to build strength up in your hair.  However, too much protein can make your hair feel hard and brittle.

Too much protein can make your hair hard to manage and make it tangle easier.  Protein is good for your hair, but just like too much of a good thing, it can be bad.  Too much protein can even break your hair off because it can cause the hair to feel hard, like straw.  You definitely don't want that.

To counter too much protein in the hair is to add moisture back to the hair.   One thing that can help this is to deep condition weekly, until you can feel your hair become softer and less tangled.  You should use a moisturizing conditioner, a plastic cap and heat.  I recommend sitting under a hooded dryer or a heated bonnet for at least a minimum of 15 minutes.  I know some will say you should do it for 30 minutes; however, your hair can only absorb so much product and then the rest is just sitting on the hair and rinsing down the drain and that can be wasteful.  Deep conditioning with a moisturizing conditioner will help to improve your hair and reverse the signs of protein overload over time.  However, please be patient.  Reversing protein overload takes time.  You cannot rush the process.  Once you let it run it's course, you will be glad that you did and you will be on your way to beautiful healthy hair again.  Patience is the Key!
